Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville, home of the TurfMutt Great Lawn, recently debuted a new STEM-based outdoor experiential learning center called PlayPort at Waterfront Park. A collaboration between Waterfront Park and Kentucky Science Center, the PlayPort pays homage to the Ohio River’s rich cultural and industrial heritage.

It features authentic artifacts converted to play structures and is designed to engage families and stimulate learning, creativity and imagination. The park is built from repurposed construction and boating equipment, blending fun and learning.

This is just one example of how communities can grow public green spaces to enhance the lives of residents. It’s a message the TurfMutt Foundation has been touting for 15 years. The Foundation also has a range of STEM-based educational resources to engage students in grades K-8 in learning in their schoolyards, backyards and community parks.
